The user is trying to access Guru from a workstation, and when attempting to connect to the database, they get a message "Unable To Connect To Server".
The SQL Server will not connect to the local database (localhost).
- It will also not restart the service from the services menu in Admin Tools.
Solution
- Click on Start, then Settings, and then Control Panel.
- Go into Administrative Tools, and then Services.
- Right click on SQLEXPRESS (SQL Server (MVSQLEXPRESS)).
- Click on Properties.
- Under the Log On tab, select the option for Local System Account.
- Put a check in the Allow service to interact with desktop (or local services).
- Then click Apply, and then OK.
- The user will get a message stating the changes will not take effect until the service is restarted. The best way to do this is to restart the computer.

Will GURU Integrate With My Practice Management System?
Solution
Currently GURU is only designed to integrate with Dentrix, and the functionalities between the systems will be completed Feb. 2008. GURU will also integrate soon with Easy Dental, as well as practice works and Soft Dent. Integration speaks mainly to seamless data transfer and patient referencing. Digital photo transfer can be accomplished with any system.

Installation fails due to SQLExpress Error
Solution
There are certain prerequisites that SQLExpress needs in order to run properly. This may need to be run manually to figure out what is actually failing. Normally all of the prerequisites are downloads from Microsoft.com. You can open the program manually from the pre-requisites folder at initial install

Cannot connect to server during install of GURU
Solution
If the server connection has failed it is highly likely that the client is indeed not connected to the server. This is often solved by instructing the office to check all cables, ping the server, and check the network connections.
Please also verify that you have installed the server component CDs on one of the computers prior to running the Disk 1 installation of GURU.

How to change the server that Guru is currently using.
Solution
- From Guru, navigate to Help | Change Server
- Select the appropriate computer name from the list
- Click OK
A connection to a server can be tested from this menu by clicking the "Test Server" button
If you cannot open GURU then:
- Open Add/Remove Programs
- Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs
- Highlight GURU and then click 'Change'
- Click 'Next' | Choose 'Modify' | Click 'Next'
- Click 'Next' until you get to the end and it asks if you wish to 'Install' (DO NOT CLICK INSTALL)
- Click 'Back'
- Browse to the other SQL Server
- Click 'Next'
- Click 'Install'
